Hiring Frenzy in the North Texas School Districts – Must Staff Up by August

There is a shortage of teachers as schools are switching back to full-time in-person teaching after such a long period of virtual teaching. Before the fall semester, schools need to hire and staff up.

What You Need to Know

Lots of resignations and retirements happen in the summers. With the Federal relief money, there are many new vacancies available. The purpose of the federal relief money is to help decrease class sizes. This will increase services for students who fell behind in academics during the pandemic.

Therefore, there is barely a month left for schools to staff up and hundreds of staff and teacher openings are available in Metroplex. In North Texas for the fall semester, there is a sudden frenzy as schools are switching from virtual to full-time schools.

Clint Bond, the spokesperson of Fort Worth ISD reportedly said, “We’re all competing for experienced teachers at this point. Probably COVID-19 helped make some decisions for some teachers, that perhaps they wanted to do something else and not come back to the classroom.”

As a result, Fort Worth ISD is hiring rapidly and there are vacancies for hundreds of teachers who can teach special education, science, math, and are bilingual. There will be bonus incentives depending on the experience, and new hires can look forward to appealing salaries.

Confirming this rumor, Clint Bond also said, “We have positioned our new teachers to make $58,000 in their first year. That puts us among the highest in the Fort Worth-Dallas area for new teachers.”

In addition, there are openings for bus drivers, plumbers, HVAC repairers, and electricians. Licensed bus drivers can earn $18 per hour. Those without a license can also earn $10 each hour while training.

According to Bond, there are other auxiliary positions open, and personnel needed.  Teacher assistance is very important and so they have increased the teachers’ pay from $11 to $15 per hour. Although there is a shortage now, Bond anticipates they will be staffed enough to open by 16 August.

Additionally, teachers will get compensation based on performance. There are some competitive compensation plans on the ground. Within five years, teachers can earn as much as $100,000 in the TEL system. This is what they would earn in 25 years of service in other districts.
